Berlin is a city built with and around water [1]. Waterways including natural rivers and artificial canals are a defining feature of the urban landscape and shaped its history and culture [2].

As a network connecting city and region waterways can be understood as multi-coded infrastructures with a vast potential to serve a transformation towards a sustainable resource region: As logistical infrastructures facilitating circular flows of goods and people linking numerous multi-modal mobility hubs that intersect with other means of transportation [3]; but also as the backbone of an ecological green and blue infrastructure connecting linear corridors for cold air flows, green zones and thus harboring human and non-human habitats.
