Since climate protection measures were introduced too late, the world has to cope with severe environmental impacts, displacing humans as well as other species from large parts of the globe. What if the countries being responsible for climate change take responsibility, protect climate refugees and recognize their potential?
The Berlin-Brandenburg region strongly depended on coal industry. Economic profit was prized above the well-being of people and the environment and the negative consequences were accepted. In the attempt to compensate the destruction and distress, former coal infrastructure will be dedicated for and handed over to climate refugees to become places of respectful co-habitation for locals and newcomers, both human and non-human species

[EN] Berlin Brandenburg 2040 was initiated by the Habitat Unit in cooperation with Projekte International and provides an open stage and platform for multiple contributions of departments and students of the Technical University Berlin and beyond. The project is funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation.
