Habitat Unit X Urban Catalyst X Hybrid City Lab

Like many small places in the former GDR, Großräschen is affected by a decreasing population and a high vacancy rate. Under the term “Urban redevelopment east”, apartment houses are being demolished to lower the maintenance costs. Though, there is a boom in building single-family homes in a different part of the city. The demolition leads to social fragmentation, has a huge ecological impact, reduces diversity and destroys a part of the local identity.
Could there be a possibility to reuse, rethink and repurpose these buildings in Großräschen? There needs to be a concept to transform the buildings and make them attractive again. We propose a process that activates and connects people. With the aim of creating ideas to preserve and transform collectively.
